Honey Mustard Ranch: Regenerative Agriculture Training in Rowlett
Dear Rowlett Community:
Today I’m writing to introduce myself and Honey Mustard Ranch. I’m a Texas native born in Carrollton, TX. Over the years, I’ve worked in the area as a high school music teacher, licensed healthcare professional, and just about everything in between. My mission with Honey Mustard Ranch is to grow plants, animals, and people with an emphasis on interdependence and safety culture.
The 20-acre ranch is located near the Circle K on Rowlett Road, and was known previously as Rowlett Stables. When I first came to visit the property, there were 2 horses, 5 cows, and 20 chickens. Given my background in education, I saw an opportunity to repurpose the land as a safe place to teach basic ranch skills.
To keep safety a top priority, I started by picking up the trash and hired local crews to build a gravel entry way and remove debris. One morning while I was with a group of volunteers picking up trash and hiking around the creek, we found a hundred dollar bill in the dirt and took it straight to Bankhead for lunch and drinks. This was my sign to keep going!
I’ve found such great partners in the Rowlett community. The local public library in Downtown Rowlett helped us learn what plants will grow in the area. The Mesquite Tractor Supply has a great nursery where we get our baby chicks and apple trees. And of course Bankhead Brewery always refuels us after a hard day’s work.
My hope is that you get to visit us some day and that Honey Mustard Ranch exceeds your expectations, just as the City of Rowlett continues to exceed mine!
